How to import multiple contacts
Learn how to import multiple contacts to Email for Trello and assign them each to a card with this handy Trello automation!
If you need to import your contacts into Trello in bulk, here’s how you can do it. Follow these 5 steps to get multiple contacts into Trello with the help of a spreadsheet and Trello automation.
1. Create a list
Create a new list specifically for importing your contacts. Give it a relevant name like ‘Import contacts’. Once all your contacts are added, if you don’t need to email them right away, you can simply archive the entire list.
2. Add a Trello rule
Add a new automation rule to assign the contact when a card is added to the list. This rule will pull the contact name and email address from the card title. Here’s what it looks like:
3. Create a spreadsheet
Set up a spreadsheet with all your contacts, separating first name, last name and email address. The syntax is important here as it needs to follow the “Name <email address>” convention – for example: Jane Doe <janedoe@example.com>
.

4. Copy your contacts
From your spreadsheet, copy the name and email address of your contacts. You can copy all the contacts at once.
Head over to Trello and paste your copied contacts when adding a new Trello card in your ‘Import contacts’ list. Then hit enter to create multiple new cards, each with the contact name and email.
5. Watch the magic happen!
As each new Trello card is created, the contact name and email address becomes the card title. The Trello rule will pull this title and assign the contact to the card.
Email your contacts directly from Trello
Once your contacts are imported, you can simply click on ‘New email’ from their card to start a new conversation.
Or if you don’t need to email them right away, you can simply archive the entire list. Your imported contacts are saved in your SendBoard contact database. So anytime you want to reach out to one of them on a new Trello card, just click the “New Email” button and start typing their name in the “To” field. The autocomplete will search through all of your SendBoard contacts to find the person you’re looking for.
